Using Wintor’s Kiosk Mode
How to deploy handout devices
What is kiosk mode?
Sometimes you want to control the app experience in your venue. For instance when you lend devices such as tablets to visitors. Our kiosk mode makes it possible to lock the app to one tour, making it impossible for visitors to see other tours in the vicinity, or see the Wintor branding.
Kiosk mode is ideal for museums, exhibitions, and events where users should not leave the tour experience presented on a dedicated device handed out at the venue.
Important: The Wintor kiosk mode keeps the app focussed on 1 tour. To make sure the device also starts up only the Wintor app, the hardware itself also needs a ‘kiosk’ mode. There are a variety of ways to do this depending on the hardware platform and the mobile-device-management tools chosen.
How can I enable kiosk mode for my devices?
First log in to the app, with an account that has edit permissions of the tour. This allows you to open the tour as an editor. From here in the top right corner, we have a settings menu. In this settings menu you can find "Enable kiosk mode". This opens a pop up which allows you to set various related settings and a passcode to exit kiosk mode. Finally you can enable kiosk mode. After restarting the app, only your tour can be visited.
How can I stop kiosk mode after setting it?
If you want to stop kiosk mode in the Wintor app, you need to take the following steps: 1. In the top right tap three times on the hidden button. This will prompt you to enter the passcode. After supplying the correct passcode you can edit any of the kiosk settings, or exit the kiosk mode.
Can I automatically return from spots on inactivity?
To return to the overview of spots after inactivity, you can enable a setting in the kiosk mode settings menu. This menu can either be accessed via the editor or the hidden menu in kiosk mode.
